Context

The Centre hospitalier universitaire vaudois (CHUV) is one of the 5 Swiss university hospitals. Thanks to its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and the EPFL, the CHUV plays a leading role in the fields of medical care, clinical research and training.

Deployed over several sites, the Lavigny Institution consists of a neurological hospital providing inpatient and outpatient services, two accommodation departments for adults with disabilities, with intellectual disabilities or with physical problems, a specialist school and a workshop and professional training sector.

The inter-institutional University Neurorehabilitation Service ( SUN ) brings together the neurorehabilitation structures of the CHUV and the Lavigny Institution, and belongs to the Department of Clinical Neurosciences of the CHUV. The SUN provides cutting-edge care for neuroinjured patients, with particular expertise in the fields of cognition and behavior, spasticity, neuromuscular diseases, and neurourology.

The SUN covers the entire neurorehabilitation pathway, with an Acute Neurorehabilitation Unit (2 beds for patients after waking up from a coma and a mobile team providing early neurorehabilitation care, a few days after the onset of the neurological injury), two post-acute neurorehabilitation hospital units (75 beds between Lavigny Hospital and CHUV), an outpatient neurorehabilitation center at CHUV, as well as the NeuroRehab Research Center allowing SUN patients to access translational research and innovative treatment technologies and approaches.

The SUN ensures close links with the Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Spinal Surgery, and the Leenaards Memory Centre in the DNC, optimising the care of patients requiring neurorehabilitation.
